What I Got- Sample Source Spring 2014

I've been really into getting samples and free stuff lately, and Sample Source is a really great program for this! This is my first time with the program but from what I got I'm really stoked to get more packages from them in the future!

It's really simple basically you create an account and when they release new samples you fill in a survey and you get to pick from your eligible samples!  Keep in mind this is all for free! Usually a lot of samples are unavailable to me in Canada, but Sample Source sends to both Canada and US.

Here is an overview of what I received.
I received 16 freebies in total and a magazine subscription for Elle:

Jergen's BB Body Cream in Light- I've heard mixed reviews about this but a BB cream for the body sounds fab.

Quaker Harvest Crunch Chocolate Nut Medley Granola bar- Mhmm granola bars are good for a quick breakfast.
Quaker Harvest Nature Warm & Crunchy Granola- More granola. yum
Snuggle Scent Booster- I could smell this from inside the box when I first received it.

Rimmel Matte BB Cream Review

BB creams are all the rage nowadays but the Koreans have been using it for quite a while now and seem to have perfected the BB Cream. Here in North America we seem to be struggling to catch on, with various brands releasing multiple versions of BB creams.  Today I'm going to be doing a review on the Rimmel Matte BB Cream 9-in-1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup.  This product claims to do a lot with its oil free formula it supposedly minimizes the appearance of pores, evens skin tone, mattifies, controls shine, smoothes, soothes, helps prevent blemishes, give all day coverage and more!  If it really did all of that it really would be a super makeup; however it does not live up to its name.  I got this product for about $8 at my local Target.

The packaging for this product is mainly what attracted me to it, it's sleek, simply and purple!  There is 1 fl oz/30 ml per bottle which is standard for a bb cream/foundation.  However, the twisty cap is a hassle to use I have to turn the bottle upside down to prevent the huge mess that it makes!
This BB cream only has 2 colour options: light and medium.  I'm using the light colour and the medium colour is only a bit more orange.  This product doesn't cater to a lot of consumers.  I think that's fine considering no one's really missing out.  This product is pretty easy to blend and layer on however it isn't matte like it claims to be, after about an hour I'm an oil slick once again.  However this product is great at relieving redness in my nose area.  This product clings to dry spots.  Since it doesn't mattify and it clings to dry skin, it's not for everyone(or anyone really!)  I would not repurchase this product.
What's your favourite BB cream?

Herbal Essences Naked Review

I received the Herbal Essences Naked shine collection from BzzAgent yesterday and I've been loving it so far.  BzzAgent is a great website that sends products or BzzCampains in exchange for reviews.  This is my first campaign ever and I love the concept of it.

This Naked Shiny Hair collection features a shampoo, conditioner, and mousse that are free of residue, paraben, silicone and dyes.  It is made with white tea and mint extracts which smells heavenly.

My hair is so much smoother and voluminous after one use.  However I have noticed that some other Herbal Essences lines have left me with residue and sometimes causes dandruff.  I will have to update you guys on this one once I start using it more though.

I even received these little travel sizes so I could bring them with me when I go on trips!

Dolcetta by Dolce Vita

I mentioned in a previous post that I was ordering cutout boots from Urban Outfitters and they finally arrived last Thursday! Since I fulfilled the minimum of $50 on my purchase, I got free economy shipping.  The week after I ordered they had a 25% off all shoes sale, and free shipping on all orders with Urban On.  I'm slightly disappointed that I could've saved around $20, but it was too late to do anything.
These are the Dolcetta by Dolce Vita Cutout Boot. I've been wanting a pair of cutout boots for awhile now, and I have an e-gift card to this website so I got them!  They aren't the best quality to be honest.  They're made with "vegan leather" and have a nice block heel. I can see some threads sticking out, and it's kind of wrinkly.  They are however super comfortable to walk in, with only a 2" heel.  I think these will be great for Spring/ Summer.  The regular price for these boots is $69 but they've been on sale at $44 for quite some time.  They're sometimes cheaper in store too.
So since those boots were $44 and I had to have a minimum of $50 to qualify for free shipping, I ordered this dainty little arrow ring.  Honestly it's such a cute and elegant ring, I can't wait to wear it with everything!  It's a nice rose gold colour, really light and came in a great little Urban Outfitters cloth bag.  I got it for $8.

When have you made a purchase only to have it go on sale afterwards?  Leave a comment!

DIY Ombre Hair with L'Oreal Feria Wild Ombre Kit

Since it's spring I decided to change my hair up a bit for the season by dying my hair.  I didn't want to just dye it because I would probably let my roots grow out in a really awkward way.  I decided to dye my hair with the L'Oreal Feria Wild Ombre kit after watching various tutorials on Youtube and reading reviews.
I got the 050 shade since it is for dark brown to soft black hair, and my hair is naturally black.  The process was pretty simple; you mix the packets inside and brush into the hair focusing the product on the bottom of the hair.  It's basically a bleach so my hair is pretty dry right now.

Here's the result.. ignore the posters and my funky pants.  It's a bit brassier than I would like but I'm thinking once it fades a bit or maybe after a couple washes the true colours will show better.  It's not bad for an at home ombre style instead of spending hundreds of dollars at the salon!

Freeman Pomegranate Peel Off Mask Review

Today I'm going to be doing a review on the Freeman Revealing Pomegranate Peel Off Mask.  That was a mouthful!  I got this from my local London Drug's last week since I heard many good things about Freeman's masks. It usually retails for $4.99 at my store but was on sale for $2.50 that day.  However it is only $3.99 on Freemanbeauty.com

The pomegranate mask is part of the Feeling Beautiful skin care line by Freeman.  It says that it is an 8- antioxidant blend of Acai, blueberry, cranberry, goji, mango, mangosteen, noni, and pomegranate guard against free radicals and environmental stress. Antioxidants are great at protecting the skin from the sun, and also provide nutrients to help cell and tissue growth.  Basically this means it's a natural and great way to keep your skin feeling great.

Enough of the boring stuff, I'll tell you how I liked the mask.  When I first opened the packaging for this, the smell was not bad, it smelled like the cleaners they use at public washrooms.  This isn't to say it's necessarily a bad smell, but it's not the best.  The mask is a very sticky consistency, much like glue.  When I set the bottle down to apply the mask, the product oozed out of the bottle.
Now I don't know if I was imagining it but the first time I used this mask it seemed very suffocating and my face turned red however when I peeled the mask off it seemed fine.  The mask is very fun to peel off, but I didn't see any dirt stick to it unlike when I use my pore strips.  My skin pretty much looks the same but feels softer.
I think this an okay product for the price, but there are definitely better masks out there in the same price range.
